Nearly 5 1/2 inches of snow before Thanksgiving is incredible in Seattle. This was not the earliest on record, but the largest before Thanksgiving. There was snowfall in late October 1971, but that was about an inch. Seatac Airport (Official reporting station for Seattle) only reported around 3 inches for the current storm, but I drove out there to check, and they didn’t measure it correctly. I was consistently showing more than that with the same carpenter’s square I used in the photo below. Frankly, Seatac snowfall totals are suspect.
